My Experience

Surface Pattern Designer

JWylie Designs, 2015 - Present

I’m a surface design professional with a keen eye for balance, composition, and color. I enjoy working with clients to interpret market trends and create designs that are refined and elegant with an emphasis on a hand-of-the-artist feeling. I have strong time and production management skills to bring client’s ideas to fruition quickly and on time. I design primarily for the textile, social greetings, and home decor markets. To create my designs, I use traditional art techniques such as watercolour painting and printmaking along with, and as well as, Adobe's Creative Suite.

Freelance Illustrator and Graphic Designer

JWylie Designs, 2014 - Present

I work primarily with small businesses in creating their visual identity; their logo, colour palette, stationary, brochures, posters, packaging, and websites. I have strong knowledge of color theory, typography, layout, packaging, pattern design and illustration. I have comprehensive understanding of the design process from client brief, initial conceptualization and brainstorming to meticulous execution and launch. My experience in software includes Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign), as well as MS Office (Powerpoint, Excel). I also create illustrations using traditional art techniques as well as digital methods which can be incorporated into your business' visual identity. I also have a fine art background with extensive experience in life, wildlife, botanical and landscape drawing, watercolor and pastel painting, as well as printmaking.

Some Comments

  • "I love my logo!!! It is so well done, simple, exactly what I wanted with your creative input. Thanks!"

  • "Wylie’s designs are indeed wily… they are surprising contemporary design which emerge from a schema that seems almost traditional from a distance until you approach and are enveloped by the artists’ ploys. wonderful work…"

  • "John Wylie is one of over 400 members who make up our talented Textile Design Lab community, and the quality and breadth of his work continually impresses and inspires me. Featuring his work for this month’s TDL member spotlight was a no-brainer as he just completed a knockout pattern collection for our recent Chelsea’s Challenge on the “Nocturne” trend ."
